Benefits of HP IceWall SSO

This page provides an explanation of the basic four benefits of implementing HP IceWall SSO, arranged according to the business objective you might have in mind.

» 1. I want to cut down on development time and man-hours!
» 2. I want to improve usability!
» 3. I want to strengthen our security levels!
» 4. I want to simplify our management tasks!

1. I want to cut down on development time and man-hours!

With IceWall, you can consolidate authentication and authorization.

By using IceWall, you consolidate authentication and authorization, streamlining your applications and reducing your overall development time and man-hours.

With IceWall, you can distribute user attributes

With IceWall’s user attribute distribution (the ‘information inheritance’ ) function, you no longer need to maintain a repository, again cutting down on application development time.

IceWall makes maximum use of your Enterprise Directory

Normally, applications must work with LDAP, which requires a great deal of customization. There is also the risk of direct access, and Directory performance is always a concern.
With IceWall, you can pull Enterprise Directory data right from the environment variable, quickly and in a wide variety of formats.

2. I want to improve usability!

With IceWall’s dynamic menu, user access privileges are clear

IceWall can present application menus dynamically, depending on the access privileges of the group to which the user belongs.
Further, by installing the Dynamic Menu Portal (a standard feature), you can also generate content user by user.

Cut down on IDs and passwords by using IceWall’s Web Single Sign-On

With Single Sign-On, users can cut down on the number of passwords they have to manage, and no longer have to enter their authentication information each time they access the server.

Cut down on the number of IDs and passwords using IceWall’s Single Sign-On with Windows®

Using the HP IceWall SSO Domain Gateway option ,a client logged in to a Windows® domain can then be automatically logged in to the IceWall server, making Single Sign-On possible in a Windows® environment.
This way, once the user is logged in to the Windows® domain, they can skip logging in to not only their Web applications, but to the IceWall server itself as well.

3. I want to strengthen our security levels!

With IceWall’s Single Sign-On for Web applications, you reduce management of user IDs and passwords.

With Single Sign-On, users can also reduce the number of passwords they need to manage themselves.
This helps prevent situations that can lower your overall security, such as users writing their passwords down in places where other people can see them.

By centralizing ID and log management, IceWall makes it easy to concentrate on the issues of unauthorized access and private information leaks

If your ID management isn’t reliable, your other security measures may not have their desired effect, either. By installing IceWall, you can centralize management of user IDs, and spend more time focusing on measures to prevent unauthorized access and private information leaks.

4. I want to simplify our management tasks!

By installing IceWall, protection against HTTP attacks can now be consolidated, instead of being implemented one application at a time.

Because a firewall cannot provide protection against HTTP attacks, it’s necessary to enact measures at the Web application level. By installing IceWall in front of your Web applications, you can consolidate implementation of those measures in one place.

IceWall helps to create uniform user ID, password, and log policies.

With each application carrying its own user ID, password, and log policies, management can become dauntingly complex.
With IceWall installed, user ID, password, and log policies are centralized, making management simple.
